 A Few Of The Good Things

Moses led the Hebrew Children out of the land of bondage, out of the land of Egypt - they left on foot, and they left quickly.  First United Methodist Church --I am told-- was known for her fast exits from worship services.  I believe the exodus has slowed!  It appears that folk are hanging around following worship, talking, shaking hands, hugging necks, and enjoying one another's company - a good thing!

Worship attendance is strong.  People are coming to church, worshiping, celebrating God's presence, and lifting one another up in prayer - that's a good thing!

Wonderful Wednesday's are truly "wonderful" with over 90 people gathering for fantastic food, enriching fellowship, and a good serving of "soul food" prepared especially for children, youth, and adults.  If you are not attending wonderful Wednesday's, you are missing a real treat!  Wonderful Wednesday's is a good thing!

Our youth and children's ministries are vibrant with great programs, activities, and fellowship.  Thirty-seven of those young people recently piled into the church bus for a local outing -- young people are being blessed... that's a good thing!

Our Sign is up and running. Thanks to our Trustees, and particularly to Vernon Smith for going the extra mile(s) to ensure a successful completion of this project. We will dedicate the sign in the coming weeks.  A lot of work has gone into this project - a great team effort. That's a good thing!

Many visitors are interested in membership at our church.  I see the potential for many new faces in our congregation in the coming weeks, and months. Now that is a good thing!

Our preschool is touching many children in our church and community.  The kids are learning about Jesus, the Bible, and God's love for them.

That's a good thing.

Soon we will begin taking pictures for our new pictorial directory.  Our Web presence is under construction.  Our Safe Sanctuaries covenant will soon be signed by workers with children and youth.  We are making plans for a Church-wide Lay Witness Mission for the Spring of 2008.  We are planning to adopt a Cambodian Missionary in the coming year.  Videos and Podcasts of our worship service are on the drawing board.  Seekers classes and Beginnings classes are being designed for the near future.

First United Methodist Church promotional DVD's are forth-coming.  Prayer ministries, prayer teams, and a community "prayer cloth" ministry is just around the corner.  These ARE GOOD THINGS among many other good things that are happening at First!!

Last, but not least, your commitment to Christ is a good thing!  You are important to God, loved by God, and loved by your church.  You are uniquely special in the sight of our Lord, Jesus Christ --- and that, my friends, IS A GOOD THING!

Celebrate Jesus.  Bask in his love, grace and peace...
